GIL ALROY
PHOTOGRAPHING PEOPLE.

I’m Gil, a photographer and visual artist based in Tel Aviv. I run a small studio specializing in portraits and small installations for my photo manipulation projects.
I discovered my passion for photography at 14 when my dad handed me his Miranda Sensomat RE, a film SLR he had used for years. It quickly became an essential tool in how I saw the world. While he loved the vibrant colors of Kodachrome, I was drawn to the simplicity of black-and-white photography. I worked with Kodak T-Max 100 film and even built a makeshift darkroom in my parents’ house, outfitted with an entry-level LPL enlarger and budget Agfa chemicals. When we later moved to a new apartment, all my early negatives and prints were lost—not that they were much of an artistic loss.
